What is a Hotel Matchmaker or Hotel Educator?

A hotel matchmaker helps travelers discover the hotels that align with them. By exploring each property's personality, atmosphere, brand ethos, service philosophy, interesting facts and guest experiences, they help people look beyond ratings, rankings, and photos to find their ideal fit. The best hotel isn't the same for everyone, it's the one that matches you.


Do you have a favourite hotel?

That's like asking me to choose my favourite child! I find myself loving each hotel for a different reason - similar to if someone is passionate about music and every song gives them a different feeling or emotion. Whether its the service, architecture, design, food, spa, history, I usually find it easier to pick a favourite aspect along those lines and I really admire how each hotel is different.

How do you decide what hotels to feature?

I research brands, analyze reviews (if the hotel has been operating), consider the pricing positioning, and weigh what experiences and knowledge my viewers would find helpful and which hotels might interest them.


Are you a hotel reviewer?

Reviewers have a different value proposition than my own. The biggest difference is that I don't give ratings or interject my personal opinions because I don't want to influence someone's opinion overall. Since we all have different travel styles and preferences, I don't think my personal opinions are relevant. I like to leave it up to the viewer to determine if the hotel is right for them. 


What happens if the experience doesn't live up to guest expectation?

This has happened in the past and I chose not to feature the hotels on my channel or social pages. I find moving on swiftly allows us to place our energy where it really matters - sticking to our main goals and Finding YOUR Hotel!
I've also become better at my vetting strategy so experiences like this are hopefully less likely to occur in the future.  :)


Are you an influencer?

I find "Hotel Educator" or "Hotel Matchmaker" to be more accurate. Since I film in a vlog style, my enthusiasm probably shines through in every video but I don't believe every hotel is right for everyone and I want viewers to come to their own conclusion. Therefore, persuasion isn't my goal. In fact, when someone watches my video and discovers certain aspects of a hotel don't align with their travel preferences I get really excited! We're closer to finding the right hotel for them. 


Do hotels pay you?
 

My content is not designed to provide paid positive reviews. When I work with a hotel, the benefit is usually access rather than influence. Collaboration can allow me to film more comprehensively, explore different room categories, learn directly from the people behind the hotel, and share insights that help viewers better understand the experience.

I believe the more accurately and completely I can present a hotel, the more helpful the content becomes for travelers deciding whether that property is right for them. And don't worry, any hosted stay or commercial partnership will be disclosed in accordance with my disclosure policy!  :)


What's the BEST Part of your "job"?

Absolutely everything! From connecting with others who are passionate about hotels and exceptional service, to hiding away for weeks editing the awesome footage. This is my dream job and I'm so grateful to have the opportunity to pursue it!
